JOINT SEMINAR ITB – NSSMC : STEEL STRUCTURES “Challenges for Disaster Prevention and Engineering toward the Future”

JOINT SEMINAR ITB – NSSMC : STEEL STRUCTURES “Challenges for Disaster Prevention and Engineering toward the Future”

BACKGROUND

Development of infrastructure has been the key factor in economic development, that in turn will enhance the quality life of the society. To develop a sustainable infrastructure has become a challenge in countries such as Indonesia and Japan, which lie in the seismic prone region. The development of the seismic design code as well as seismic devices are indispensable.
More challenges are due to the fast growing demand on more ecient and reliable, as well as on sustainable infrastructure construction. Steel structures have been successfully developed in Japan and become very potential to answer the needs for future development of infrastructures, including for disaster prevention. Applications of steel structures are still considerably low in infrastructure construction in Indonesia, while the advantages of steel structures have been demonstrated during past earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. To anticipate the future increasing demand on infrastructure development in Indonesia, more information and lesson learned on steel structures need to be shared and discussed. The Joint Seminar on Steel Structures is organized by Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Institut Teknologi Bandung and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation.

The Joint Seminar will be held on
