ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Body of Knowledge

Body of Knowledge Program Studi Doktor
Civil Engineering

Program Studi Doktor Teknik Sipil memiliki enam (6) bidang keahlian, yaitu:

  1. Structural Engineering
  2. Geotechnical Engineering
  3. Water Resources Engineering
  4. Transportation Engineering
  5. Construction Management and Engineering
  6. Rekayasa Kelautan

Thus, the Body of Knowledge (BoK) of the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering accommodates various highly specific disciplines depending on the field of expertise and research topic. The BoK in each field of expertise is expected to impart the general competencies of a doctoral degree—enabling graduates to conduct independent research, adhere to scientific ethics and morals, and produce scientific works that reflect specialized expertise and original contributions. Furthermore, a doctoral graduate must be capable of knowledge transfer to the scientific community. The BoK across all fields of expertise encompasses the complete lifecycle stages of physical infrastructure, specifically planning, design, construction execution, as well as operation and maintenance (O & M).

CIVIL ENGINEERING

Challenges Faced

Educational and Professional Challenges in
Civil Engineering

In general, the challenges faced by doctoral program graduates reflect the challenges of the civil engineering profession at large. However, an additional challenge lies in ensuring graduates possess deeper expertise in their chosen fields, enabling them to conduct independent research effectively and contribute to scientific advancement.

Currently, the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering holds an 'A' accreditation from the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education. As part of the global civil engineering community, the vision and mission of the civil engineering profession globally adopt ASCE's Vision for Civil Engineering in 2025. Numerous professional associations in Indonesia, within the specialization fields of civil engineering, have collaborated in providing input regarding current conditions, expectations, challenges, and curriculum development. Benchmarking against the curricula of foreign universities is continuously conducted by each specialization management team. There is no specific curriculum standard issued by accreditation institutions or associations that serves as a dedicated reference for the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering curriculum.

Several references utilized for the development of the 2013 curriculum are as follows:

  1. ASCE, The Vision of Civil Engineering in 2025, The Summit on the Future of Civil Engineering—2025, June 21–22, 2006. ASCE, 2007.
  2. ASCE, Achieving the Vision of Civil Engineering in 2025: A Roadmap for the Profession. ASCE, 2009

The objectives of the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering are:

  1. To cultivate graduates with an independent character and professional responsibility, enabling them to actively participate in safe and environmentally conscious infrastructure development activities in an era of globalization, regional autonomy, and privatization/corporatization, while staying responsive to broad community participation.
  2. To serve as a sustainable higher education platform for nurturing individuals of independent, noble, disciplined, and resilient character, who demonstrate empathy and actively participate in resolving humanitarian challenges, preserving Indonesia's natural environment, and addressing global issues at large.
  3. To produce graduates who possess the capability to conduct research independently, creatively, innovatively, and with originality.

The graduate competencies of the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering are:

  1. Possess the ability to develop and continuously update science and technology in the chosen field of Civil Engineering expertise by mastering and understanding scientific approaches, methods, and principles, accompanied by application skills.
  2. Possess the ability to design and conduct experiments or research in Civil Engineering, as well as analyze, synthesize, and evaluate research data independently.
  3. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve Civil Engineering problems (specifically defining problem scopes) within complex process systems.
  4. An ability to enhance professional performance characterized by acute problem analysis, comprehensive literature reviews, and cohesive problem-solving or comparable professional practices.
  5. An ability to design complex Civil Engineering systems, processes, or components to meet desired needs.
  6. A broad knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the implications of the civil engineering profession in a global context, engaging effectively with contemporary issues such as technological advancements, environmental impacts, and life-cycle analysis.
