Coastal Engineering
Research and community service activities are carried out by the academic staff of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FTSL) across 9 Research Groups. The Research Groups within FTSL were first established based on the ITB Rector's Decree No. 2567/SK/K01/KP/2005 dated October 25, 2005 concerning the Formation and Membership Structure of Research Groups (KK) at FTSL Institut Teknologi Bandung, including among them the Ocean Engineering Research Group.
The first Head of the Ocean Engineering Research Group was the late Prof. Dr. Hang Tuah, M.Oc.E. Subsequently, the Ocean Engineering Research Group was chaired successively by Prof. Ricky Lukman Tawekal, Dr. Irsan Brodjonegoro, Dr. Muslim Muin, and in December 2013, it was again led by Prof. Ricky Lukman Tawekal.
Furthermore, based on the Rector's Decree in January 2015, the Ocean Engineering Research Group was split into two Research Groups to focus more effectively on research activities, namely the Coastal Engineering Research Group and the Offshore Engineering Research Group. Coastal Engineering is a branch of ocean engineering focusing on coastal areas, including coastal protection, reclamation and dredging technology, tidal land development, and port technology; more detailed information regarding the fields of expertise can be found in the roadmap section. Currently, the Head of the Coastal Engineering Research Group is Muslim Muin, Ph.D.
